Fremont First Beautification Award
The improvements of a Fremont home has led to its owners being presented with a Fremont First Beautification Award.The honor was presented to Corey and Shoshone Thomas by Fremont Town Council President Steve Brown along with Cameron Memorial Community Hospital’s Greg Burns, president and CEO. The Thomases were awarded the honor for the outstanding exterior of their home at 200 S. Coffin St. where they have lived for the past eight years. The Thomases have made a number of modifications to the home over the years“The latest ones are the changes that I think got the attention of the selection committee,” Corey said. In 2010, the Thomases completely remodeled their garage, adding a seating area off of the east end, new siding and landscaping.

They also added a new deck off the back of their home. “I spend a lot of time out there in the summertime,” Soshone said. In addition, the Thomases have installed new windows, a new roof and new paint to the home that was built in the early 1900s. “We are very pleased to honor the hard work of the Thomases,” Burns said. “They have done a really nice job and exemplify the spirit of the award.” The purpose of the Fremont First Beautification Award is to promote and recognize the efforts of town residents who beautify their residential landscapes and the exterior of their homes. The award is sponsored by Cameron Hospital as part of its commitment to promote wellness and a high quality of community life. This honor will be awarded quarterly with two awards recognizing a home’s exterior and two honoring outstanding landscaping.The public is invited to nominate themselves or neighbors who are deserving of the attention. Nominations must be located within the Fremont limits, and the property nominated must be visible from the public right of way. Nomination forms are available on Cameron’s website at cameronmch.com or at the Fremont Town Hall at 205 N. Tolford St. The organizers and selection committee consist of John Ludy, Anne Abernathey, Neil Ledet, Ray Lauer and Darbie Clark.Recipients of the award will receive a gift certificate provided by Cameron Hospital to a local home improvement/landscape nursery store and will be recognized with a sign for their yard.
